Putin, Trump aim for cooperation, stabilization of relations

MOSCOW, Jan 30 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to work jointly on stabilization of relations of their countries during their first telephone conversation, the Kremlin said in a statement on January 28.

“During the conversation, both sides expressed their readiness to make active joint efforts to stabilize and develop Russia-U.S. cooperation on a constructive, equitable and mutually beneficial basis,” the statement read.

“The sides stressed the importance of rebuilding mutually beneficial trade and economic ties between the two counties’ business communities, which could give an additional impetus to progressive and sustainable development of bilateral relations.”

The two presidents agreed to issue instructions to work out a possible date and venue for the meeting. Trump “asked to convey his wishes of happiness and prosperity to the Russian people, saying that the American people have warm feelings towards Russia and its citizens.” Putin said that the feeling is mutual.

Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that the talk provided a positive signal for businesses and investors.

“The focus on restoration of the trade and economic cooperation is very important. The results of the first phone conversation of presidents of the U.S. and Russia are a very positive signal for the business and investors and show a possibility of restoration of cooperation between our countries, including cooperation in the investment sphere,” he said.
